My story

An engineer who got frustrated with accounting software

I am Sunny Khetarpal — a full-stack web developer based in New Delhi with over a decade of experience building production PHP and Laravel applications. I have built everything from SaaS tools and payment-gated platforms to financial calculators and PWAs for the Indian market.

The frustration that led to LedgerDesk is one that every small business owner in India knows well. Tally requires a Windows machine and a ₹18,000 licence. Busy is powerful but intimidating. Most cloud alternatives are either too expensive, too generic, or simply not built with India's GST rules in mind.

I wanted something different — a clean, browser-based accounting system that understood double-entry bookkeeping, spoke GST fluently, and did not require a three-day training session to operate.

I did not build LedgerDesk to compete with enterprise software. I built it for the kirana store owner, the freelance consultant, the small trading firm — people who just need their books to be correct.

So I built it myself. Every line of code in LedgerDesk was written by me. The double-entry engine, the GST auto-detection logic, the voucher system, the reports — all of it. This means when something breaks, I fix it. When you email support, you are talking to the person who built the feature.

There is no venture capital behind this. No team of 50. Just clean code, honest pricing, and a genuine commitment to keeping your books correct.

How LedgerDesk came to be

2014
Started as a developer
Built first PHP web applications for local Delhi businesses. Learned firsthand how messy their bookkeeping was.
2017
GST rollout in India
Watched small businesses panic as GST launched. Built internal tools to help clients manage CGST/SGST/IGST calculations. The seed was planted.
2022
First version built
Developed a working double-entry accounting engine with voucher support and basic GST reports for personal use and a handful of clients.
2025
LedgerDesk launched
Rebuilt from the ground up in Laravel with a clean UI, full GST compliance, inventory module, and public SaaS launch.
